Are smaller and more casual weddings really that common?
I once was a bridesmaid 8 and was more than 20 weddings. I grew up in a bourgeois neighborhood in the northeast, and none of my friends were by no means wealthy. Every wedding I have ever been nearly identical. 150-300 persons, large church, a hotel ballroom or golf club filled with your choice of filet mignon or stuffed chicken, DJ, bands, fancy flowers, elaborate centerpieces and favors really nice. Each wedding is exactly the same! No surprises. I have never been to a wedding on the beach, catering hall, backyard, or anywhere outside casual. I had no idea this kind were weddings, that common until I started visiting this site. Is this normal? Do others share my observation in the Northeast?
I'm from the Northeast, including weddings and you describe are quite common here. I think, however, a trend has begun, a little more unique. Let's face it, the same old wedding over and over and over is incredibly boring. My wedding is at about 100 people, church, occupied a small local vineyard, stuffed chicken or seafood pot, minimally decorated flowers Lanterns as the center, and simple favors NH maple syrup jug. It is some of the traditional stuff, but with our own twists. I think people realize that expensive golf club reception weddings are silly, and many of us are less expensive routes. The money I save not need to buy my fiance and I a house. People are always practical, and I'm for it!
