Does the modification of the carburetor on my 1990 VW Golf to make no difference to power?

I have a 18 years old VW Golf 1300cc. It was cut on the highway because of "carburetor icing" on a certain day when it rained. Moreover, it was sometimes cut was in London because of probs with the carb making it jerky (I was told the carb needed cleaning gunk out of it). I am thinking about changing the carburetor, but wonder whether this is a difference could apply to the overall performance of the car make. For example, going uphill, it is very weak, and I have to put in the 3rd Gang even to 45MPH. Would that be up to the carb as well or can I just assume it's an old engine is weak? The car has done 109,000 miles. I had done a pressure test on it when I first i found and, that one of the cylinders a little lower than the others, but still acceptable in an area.

If you work for a high performance carburetor, it can improve the performance a little. Check out your batteries with a mechanic, and whether a high-carb is for your golf. If you increase the CFM rating isometric to ( Feet of air per minute), you will produce a little more horsepower and torque. To search for a carb CFM that a higher rating as a the camp, which currently are has. But consult a first mechanic. You can over-carb, the engine very easy. Bigger is not necessarily better. When the engine is old and tired, so they can recover will need. How many miles are there? You can also use a tune-up on the car, and it is easy to improve throttle response and HP. But once again, a mechanic inspect your vehicle first and diagnose what the problem. If you do not receive one-to-aftermarket carb, you can rebuilt your stock book. For larger jets are available, You can improve performance a bit by the jets in the carb. You may just need the carb cleaned and rebuilt well and professionally. Once again, a mechanic who check it out for you. Do not get suckered. You have a right to ask more opinions first, before you performed any work. Good luck and Godspeed!
