There have been few evaluations as eagerly awaited by Sand Trap forum members and readers like this and the forthcoming review of the Titleist been AP1s. Design and Technology

Titleist AP2 Forged describes as "impressive performance, multi-material, dual cavity, technical forged iron providing traditional solid feel, looks and shot control for the skilled player. "Hmm, yeah. Let's crack the marketing mumbo-jumbo, to see what we have actually already here.

The abbreviation "AP" stands for "Advaned Performance" and the AP2 is built with several materials, ie, "multi-material." The AP2S are formed with a 1025 carbon steel body. Laser welded to the back and sole, a tungsten-nickel lowers the center of gravity, creating an optimal location CG low and deep in the clubhead. The lower, deeper CG leads to an improved launch conditions with consistent ball velocity for distance and an optimal start and Spin-orbit for the control. Titleist calls this break through a "process" and in the words of Chris McGinley, says: "Never again a piece with this kind of Function or complex geometry has been welded to a fake. Titleist AP2 holds a "dual-cavity design." The first cave is obvious: it is the upper part of the club, on the elastomer cushion and below the topline of the club. Aesthetics

Performance
Again, I have always played muscle-backs for the feedback they provide. When I play a cavity iron – even the "good golfer" cavity backs as suffering from TaylorMade r7 TP or the Cleveland CG Red – my game and swing quickly under its lack of feedback. Swings are poor with decent shots and a generic "feel" and suffers my ballstriking rewarded. I can not play the variety of shots I like to play around the golf course. So it was with some trepidation that I first time to the AP2S. To be honest, is Titleist ZM and ZB models seemed more my thing. But for a long time player Muscle and traditionalists such as Adam Scott had made the switch to the AP2, so who was I to argue?

Nobody, that whoever. Although my first impressions were quite positive, I only came to like and appreciate the AP2 more the longer I used it.

With other clubs in this class (r7 TP, CG Red), only the worst Recordings transferred enough feedback so I know where I had hit the ball. Contact in the middle of the face (but not necessarily on the sweet spot) all tend to over the same and feel a bit dull. I need not have provided the AP2S, as they almost all feedback that I've come to expect from my muscle iron. Every piece of feedback is transmitted, albeit in weakened form. If you pay attention, you can recognize the difference between a good shot and beaten one that narrowly missed. I've found that virtually impossible, with the others, but the AP2S Excel in this area and I can not praise them highly enough.

For the times when you will be the sweet spot, can get not described as a buttery smooth muscle, but it's awfully close. One thing you are not aware may find that the grooves on the Titleist AP1s and fittings AP2S corresponds to the proposed revised specifications. While I welcome Titleist to treat their customers well (you can iron them reasonably comfortable in the knowledge that they meet the revised Rules should I buy), it took me a while to have to get used to flying again too. Knowing how a flier lie judge is not a skill Many golfers already learned, but it is a skill that is relatively easy to collect and can be very good, something that all golfers with very soon.

You are Titleist irons, though, so custom options abound. Right can Length Change, from 2 inch to 1 "(left-handed from 1" to -½"). Lofts can be adjusted + / – 1 ° and right angles that are set of +4 ° to -2 ° (+ / – 2 ° for left-handers).

Overall
While Titleist has long been in an "evolutionary" phase, (see 690MB -> 695.MB -> ZM-line), leading to subtle tweaks proven designs, the AP1 and AP2 is a revolutionary departure from the old and make a bold new direction for Titleist.

Revolutions do not come without risk, But this risk is worthwhile for Titleist. The AP2S are some of the best "experienced player" non-muscle iron I've ever played. They offer the perfect blend of Forgiveness and feedback, the good golfers need. If you get past the slightly thicker topline and you often need to be able to hit a super-low shot, this Clubs very well the way into your pocket. If they do, your results should fall, you should increase your consistency and your satisfaction may very well be a hit all-time high. I know I have.
